Will work for...FUN

Me and Princess Presto
I don't usually travel a lot for work.  So it was kind of rare that I would have two trips back to back.  I just spent all of last week in Denver and I've been in Boston since Sunday for a big cable show.  I'm definitely ready to be home (two weeks on the road would be tiring to even the most seasoned "road warrior") but I would be lying if I said that I hadn't been having fun.

It kind of got me to thinking about how lucky I am to have a job that I enjoy.  I really consider it to be a fluke that I even work in media.  I didn't grow up wanting to work for a TV station.  Truthfully, I never thought a lot about what I wanted to be when I "grew up." I mean, I started college as a political science major (thank goodness that didn't last :)

But 22 years ago I signed up to volunteer for one of the stations on-air telethons and I've been hooked ever since.  I keep pretty busy (which is good for me and the type of person that I am :) and it is fun.  Really fun.  (It doesn't hurt that I work with a bunch of great people either :)

Laura, Barbara and George
So to celebrate the fact that I am FINALLY going home tomorrow, I thought I would post some pics of me "at work."  Working hard or hardly working?  I'll let you be the judge.

The cost of a haircut

The kids and I were out shopping today when I suggested to Kobe that it might be about time that we go to get his hair cut. Truth be known, it was "time" for a hair cut a couple of inches, err..I mean, months ago (the kid must think he's Samson or something 'cause he gets a little freaky anytime we talk about trimming up his curly locks :)

Anyway, Kobe is going to be a good negotiator when he grows up.  Cause he talked me into paying him $15--to get a haircut! Does this make me a bad mom? Originally, it was only going to be $10 but he countered with "$15 and we can go right now..."

Sold!! Five minutes later we were sitting at the local Great Clips :)

I did manage to get back at him by posting these mildly embarassing photos on his Facebook page.

These pictures were taken mid-cut--so no, my kid is not walking around with an 80' haircut (I'm not THAT bad of a mom :)

It Takes A Village

So I had another race this morning--and decided it was the perfect day to make my tribe come with to The Village Run 5k!

It's been awhile since I've made the kids come run with me (I'm trying get my kids to be more active--not to develop a hate for running :) but it was so nice out this morning they couldn't help but have a fun time.  There was a carnival, music and other things like that so the kids had plenty to do while they were waiting for me and Simone to finish our 3.1 jaunt.
We were able to get two of the three kids to compete when it was time for the Kids Fun Run.  Apparently, Tehani needs to start running track because she took first place (and yes, she ran in her jeans and her pink Keds) She finished several seconds before all of the other kids (I actually told her after that she doesn't need to run that fast when she is so far in front of everyone else :)  Eva took third place--and Kobe was their #1 cheerleader!

Then they finished the morning off with a lil' egg hunt (Is it really going to be Easter already?)

Happy Spring people!  Let's get on out there and spring something!!

Tastes Like Chicken

Frog legs anyone?

I just got these pics from the kid's science teacher and though they were too fun not to share.  I remember having to dissect a frog years ago (though I don't remember being quite so happy to be cutting open one of Kermit's cousins :) It seems like I didn't cut open my first amphibian until junior high but I guess just like everything else, kids do things earlier now.

I also noticed that Kobe must not be worried about getting formaldehyde in his eyes (since he is apparently only using his science goggles to hold his hair in place :)  I guess the good news is that if he does gets frog juice anywhere, he does have his tie on so he can use that to wipe it up (I've seen his ties after he gets done wearing them.  I'm pretty sure he only wears a tie so he can use them kind of as a bib :)

I'm hoping that happy smiling biology students= good grade in science :)

It's a tie!

Who is that handsome young man in the middle of this Meridian School promotional piece?  Granted, I don't really expect you to recognize him--especially when he's got a tie on and everything (that and I do realize that my blog posts have been few and far between lately :)

Yes, it is none other than the Koberoo.  My teenager in training.  Who also wears a tie to school everyday (even though he isn't required to.) Common clothing arguments in our house now revolve around the fact that Kobe keeps stealing Norm's neckties (apparently they are unwearable after the Kobester has gotten through with them.)

Alex P Keaton doesn't got anything on my tie-wearing kid!  (And if any of you have old ties that you would like to get rid of, I think I have someone that could use them :)
